Book Week 2026

Book week at High Halstow was brilliant! We have been celebrating reading since September as part of the Year of Reading and our book week really celebrated reading for enjoyment.

We had ‘drop and read’ time throughout the week and classes joined together to enjoy reading books with a younger or older year group and siblings.

During the week, teachers swapped classes for the end of the day to read to a different class and the pupils had a lot of fun trying to guess who their ‘mystery’ reader might be.

Each year group had a different book to focus on for the week and the focus was a high quality picture book. Pupils, after exploring the books, all completed an outcome linked to the book.

We displayed the outcomes and lots of photos of our week at our open classroom for parents and carers to see.

The week culminated in our book day and this year the focus was a bedtime story. Pupils and staff were invited to bring to school their favourite bedtime books and to wear pyjamas for the day!

Finally on Wednesday 11th March the whole Academy went to the Lyceum Theatre in London to see The Lion King!

This was a wonderful opportunity for all the pupils to see such a lovely live musical.

We will continue this year to celebrate reading and to encourage reading for pleasure with lots more initiatives taking place this academic year!
