At Leigh Academy High Halstow, we intend for a happy academy where everyone is valued and respected. To enable each child to achieve their full potential and make the most of the opportunities and choices offered to them, we intend to provide a secure and stimulating environment that promotes independence, self-esteem, health and well-being.
The PSHE curriculum, taught by following the PSHE Association, alongside the whole curriculum, promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the academy. This leads to a consistently high level of pupil achievement, preparing pupils for the challenges, opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.We intend that all children should enjoy their learning, achieve their potential and become independent life-long learners.
We intend that education takes place in a fully inclusive environment with equal opportunities for all, and that all children should learn to value religious and cultural differences. Our academy strives to be at the centre of the local community with positive and effective links to the wider and global communities.
Throughout their time at Leigh Academy High Halstow, the children are given a range of opportunities to learn to prepare for all the opportunities, challenges, life decisions and responsibilities they may face in the future, where the promotion of their mental and physical development are of utmost importance.
- Every year group follows the PSHE Association programme of study, which ensures a wide breadth of learning opportunities for each key stage. These are spread across three core themes: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World.
- This programme of study is progressive through year groups, so allows the children to build on skills, deepen their knowledge and gradually build up age-appropriate understanding.
- PSHE Lead ensures that the new RSHE content is taught at High Halstow in an age-appropriate, sensitive and informative way. This is done by regular feedback from teaching staff, CPD and learning walks.
- Parents/carers are informed of the new RSHE curriculum by attending workshops and receiving a letter informing them of the learning that will take place.
- Regular whole-school, Key Stage and class assemblies support the implementation of the school’s PSHE intentions.
Through the high quality teaching of PSHE taking place, we will see the impact of the subject in different ways.
Children will be able to express themselves confidently, identify and explain their feelings and show development of emotional maturity. Children will gain a huge variety of critical knowledge to support them through their lives, for example, understanding how to budget, nutrition, personal hygiene and managing their feelings about the news. Children will be engaged in their learning, often leading to in-depth discussions where every voice is heard, and want to find out more.
Every child will leave Leigh Academy High Halstow feeling valued, equal, emotionally resilient and well-equipped to deal with all challenges that may face them in the future.
Assessments and monitoring will show standards in PSHE will be high and will match standards in other subject areas.
